Pelicans Rumors: Can Nets top Lakers, Celtics, Knicks for Anthony Davis?
Could the Nets outbid everyone else?
This is where things get tricky and even more hypothetical. Let’s say the Los Angeles Lakers, New York Knicks, Boston Celtics, Los Angeles Clippers, and Denver Nuggets all get into the Anthony Davis Sweepstakes as expected. With so many teams gunning for the same player, could the Brooklyn Nets actually tempt the New Orleans Pelicans into striking a deal?
The short answer is, “Maybe.” On paper, a haul like what Brooklyn could offer is pretty solid. They have a surplus of very good players that would all have important and clearly defined roles with the Pels. Still, there’s minimal star power coming back to New Orleans in these scenarios, which might cause them to look elsewhere instead.
Boston can offer a potential star like Jayson Tatum. The Knicks can offer the #3 draft pick, likely resulting in the reunion of RJ Barrett and Zion Williamson. The Lakers already have big names like Lonzo Ball, Brandon Ingram, and Kyle Kuzma that they could offer to the Pelicans.
Still, the young Nets assets already have playoff experience and are potentially the best package available from the rumored AD suitors in terms of adding players that are ready to step in and contribute in big ways immediately.
Ultimately, the decision comes down to what sort of roster David Griffin and Trajan Langdon want for the New Orleans Pelicans. With the many phone calls the team will likely get about Anthony Davis over the next few weeks, it seems the Brooklyn Nets could actually have what it takes to create the next super team in the East.
