Well, would you look at that, more hypothetical situations surrounding the Anthony Davis trade?! The New Orleans Pelicans’ roster is likely to drastically alter in the coming weeks, let’s look at another angle.
Some fans and analysts might have other preferred landing spots for Davis’ services, but as it stands, the Lakers are still very much so favorites in the sweepstakes. They possess a very appealing package and could offer the New Orleans Pelicans the best bang for their buck. If the 4th overall selection the Lakers own is involved with the package, what should they do with it?
We did an article on who the team should look at in the draft if they were to keep the pick, you can view that, here. That’s still a very viable option for the Pelicans, but it isn’t exactly the only one. The team is very young, and though you want youth in a rebuild, it’s good to have veteran experience in the locker room.
David Griffin has voiced his want for an established role player in a Davis return before he was made VP of basketball operations, could that still be a requirement to complete this trade? If so, that 4th overall pick could be used to acquire such a player. Notably, there’s free agency, that’s another outlet to grab a role player. But don’t rain down on my hypothetical parade.
Or could the pick be used to acquire an additional star? The Lakers have enticing assets other than their first-round selection this year, could they be combined to team Jrue Holiday and Zion Williamson with a third star? A lot of substance here, let’s look at three options in particular.
