LaVar Ball gave plenty of questionable statements before the New Orleans Pelicans acquired Lonzo Ball via the Anthony Davis trade. He sounded off after the trade was announced, providing plenty of entertainment and insight.

LaVar Ball is an outspoken individual. This much he has assured the world (loudly). He also had some statements before his son Lonzo Ball was dealt to the New Orleans Pelicans in a package for Anthony Davis.

Those statements were likely an attempt to pressure the Lakers and Pelicans to leave Lonzo Ball in Los Angeles. Every other moving part was strategically leaking morsels of information to their chosen media member. LaVar Ball speaks for himself, honestly, and with brash approach to his strategy.

That should actually play well in New Orleans, permitting Lonzo Ball is seeing success in a Pelicans jersey.

LaVar Ball was attending his youngest son LaMelo’s Drew League game when he heard the news.

Naturally, LaVar Ball had some opinions, and the swarming media provided a microphone. The New Orleans Pelicans will have plenty of Lakers draft picks moving forward. Everyone cheering New Orleans will be buying a voodoo doll in hopes of at least one LaVar Gaurantee being truth:

No one  thinks the Lakers will never win a championship again, but that statement is not hyperbole. The Pelicans fleeced the Lakers in this trade. Magic Johnson can see the obvious talent in these young players, and so does David Griffin. LaVar goes on to explain how Lonzo will excel in Alvin Gentry’s system.

LaVar also had some advice for Anthony Davis. Mainly, Davis needs to work on his handles and his free throws. The expectations in Hollywood are different, with their red carpets and all. LaVar even lays down a “sugar to sh*t” analogy that is poignant considering the saga that unfolded before the trade.

LaVar goes on to say the “Lakers will always be known for getting rid of great players….Everybody who get away from the Lakers, boy they do so much better after they get away.” His examples included D’Angelo Russell and Julius Randle. The shade tossed at Cleveland was unnecessary, but on point for Cleveland’s reputation.

In the end, LaVar walked back his previous statements, saying he just wants to see Lonzo playing and healthy. It might even be good for Lonzo Ball to get a fresh start in a player-friendly system. Playing next to Jrue Holiday and Zion Williamson will make anyone look better.

"“I don’t care where Lonzo plays. I want him to play. And it is better to go somewhere where you can just play and do your thing and be that guy instead of having all these question marks behind you."

Next. A closer look at Lonzo Ball. dark

LaVar’s antics can sometimes be a bit distracting, but there’s no denying that Lonzo Ball could be a great piece for the New Orleans Pelicans in the wake of the Anthony Davis trade. One thing’s for sure; Pelicans fans are never in for a dull moment anymore.
