Ah yes, the day of the draft, where anything and everything can and will happen. The New Orleans Pelicans enter with the rights to consensus number one pick, Zion Williamson. However, they also own the 4th pick and have been actively shopping it. Let’s look at four potential trades options.
The New Orleans Pelicans shook the NBA world at its very core by trading away former franchise cornerstone, Anthony Davis, to the Los Angeles Lakers. But it seems like David Griffin and company are just getting started. In the trade, they received the rights to the Lakers’ fourth overall selection, which opens up a world of possibilities.
There’s still the chance the Pelicans utilize the pick and select a prospect to team alongside their phenom, Zion Williamson. Or could they shop it in the open market and see what value they could get in return. Yeah, that’s going to be the million dollar question as we get closer to the 2019 NBA Draft: Keep the pick and add another rookie alongside Zion Williamson or move it for a player who will come in and impact the rebuild.
Could the team trade for an established young star? Or could they trade the 4th in a package around a solid roleplayer and more draft capital? The Atlanta Hawks have a plethora of first-round draft selections, could they package them in hopes of trading up? They wouldn’t be the only team looking to move up, either. We will take a look at potential suitors for the 4th overall pick and see what deal David Griffin can whip up to help this team.
