The New Orleans Pelicans’ rebuild looks pretty, doesn’t it? However, David Griffin and company still have their work cut out for them. The team is young—very young—but they do have cap space. Let’s look at 5 veteran free agents that fit their timeline.

It’s still very feasible that the roster on the court come opening day of the 2019/20 season has some adjuments made to it from the one you see now. The correct transactions have been made thus far, but there are still holes to be filled. Perhaps the New Orleans Pelicans try to sort out some of those issues in free agency. The team has significant cap space to play with, so let’s dabble with the idea.

There are multiple angles you could look at with this freed up cap space. You could splurge with an elite level talent to complement your new roster; or you could acquire a multitude of players, all that fit Griffin’s idea and fit within Gentry’s new system in place. This free agency class has no shortage of star power—but don’t expect Griff to make a move that isn’t well calculated.

As I mentioned before, this is a very young team. They’ve got to get acclimated with each other, the system incorporated in place, and grow and develop as a unit. All of this can be expedited with a strong veteran presence aiding Gentry with locker room direction along the way.

Some of these options may warrant a hefty price tag and some you might get for a bargain. Let’s take a look at five options, in no particular order.
