New Orleans Pelicans: 5 veteran free agents worth targeting
By Nolan Jensen
#4) Nikola Mirotic
Hey, does everyone remember this guy!? He played well in New Orleans, actually his most productive stint as a pro was in the Big Easy.
In the 62 games he played for the Pelicans, Mirotic compiled averages of 15.7 points, 8.2 rebounds and connected on 2.4 three-point field goals a game for an eFG% of 53.3 percent. Perhaps it is the sample size that favors the statistics, but he would have a place on this current roster.
Ignore what he did, or didn’t do in the Eastern Conference Finals—if you can. He shot the ball horribly and became virtually unplayable at times. He’s a streaky shooter, unafraid of hoisting once the ball comes in his hands, we all know this.
But he would represent a pretty dynamic frontcourt alongside Zion Williamson if Gentry were to go small. The Pelicans need guys that can stretch the floor, Niko can do that as illustrated by his corner three percentage of 46.7 percent this past season.
93.5 percent of his three-point makes this past season were assisted, and with a lineup that consists currently of Lonzo Ball, Jrue Holiday, and Zion Williamson—they’re going to get him looks. The fit is great offensively, and if the money/term is reasonable, I’d be game for a Mirotic return.
