The New Orleans Pelicans could be in for a very interesting summer. With significant cap space at their disposal, what should our expectations be for this year’s free agency?

If the past few months have taught New Orleans Pelicans fans anything, it’s that David Griffin doesn’t make a move that’s not well calculated. They’re not entering this summer as impulse buyers, the correct transactions will be made with long-term prosperity in mind.

With a little more than $30 million to play with, there are multiple routes the organization can take.

Could the team go out and pursue an established star to pair with Jrue Holiday and their youth movement? Perhaps. Or could they spend the money to find complementary rotational pieces that don’t require them to reach deep into their pockets?

This summer is likely to be crazy—the NBA landscape might reshape, the shift of power could alter—and with this additional space the Pelicans could be in the middle of things.

Just don’t necessarily expect something drastic (cause, you know, the last few weeks haven’t been). Griffin and company are building something from the ground up, there won’t be any shortcuts. What was deemed a bleak situation back in January is now overwhelmingly bright.

So let’s take a look at three different options the team could take with free agency.
