4 forwards the New Orleans Pelicans should target in NBA free agency
By Cody Taylor
Vince Carter, Atlanta Hawks, Unrestricted Free Agent
The man, the myth, the legend, the future first ballot hall of famer! On June 5th, Vince Carter announced on The Jump on ESPN that he planned to return for a record 22nd season in the NBA. We can all agree that’s a long time, and what an amazing career it has been for Carter.
8 time All-Star, 2 time All-NBA, 1998-99 All-Rookie and Rookie of the Year. The list goes on. Vince has been on 8 NBA teams, most famously the Toronto Raptors thanks to the draft day trade in 1998 from the Golden State Warriors. Carter dunked his way into our hearts winning the 2000 Slam Dunk Contest.
While his numbers have steadily declined over the last several seasons, never reaching over 10 points per game since the 2013-14 season with the Memphis Grizzlies, he finds ways to contribute. With the Atlanta this last season, he averaged 7/2/1 on 41.9% shooting from the field and 38.9% from beyond the three-point line.
Vince’s glory days are well behind him, but he could prove to be absolutely valuable as a locker room presence and mentor to Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson and show this young core what it means to be a true professional on and off the court. He can demonstrate how to win if he isn’t trying to chase that elusive NBA Championship in his final season.
