Zion Williamson

Much like the Jrue Holiday addition, shouldn’t come as much as a surprise. You now all know his game, and you more than likely know his game. He’s the most hyped prospect of recent memory for a reason. Zion represents a third chance for the Pelicans to build around a franchise cornerstone.

There are tweaks he’ll need to make, the most popular flaw naysayers cling onto for dear life is shooting ability. The three-point shot has all but taken over the NBA and Zion isn’t known for being an intimditating perimeter threat, so how will his game translate?

Well, he is a physical freak of nature…there is that. He’s a force on the defensive end and is a runaway freight train out in transition. He will have to work on his halfcourt game at the NBA level, but that’s not a genuine concern at this point.

Gentry and company will incorporate a system around their first overall pick to make the tranistion as seamless as possible. But nothing is given in the big leagues. Look to see how Zion adapts to what opposing defenses throw at him. The team has the personnel to aid if he’s trapped in a halfcourt setting, and if defenses sag off of him—look to see how he reacts to it.

There will be growing pains, just like there will be with this starting five. Zion has to get acclimated with his teammates and learn their tendencies and grow organically with them. It’ll be a process, success will unlikely appear in the opening weeks, but they’ll get there.
