New Orleans Pelicans: How should the team handle depth from the forward positions?
By Cody Taylor
The New Orleans Pelicans have no shortage of depth entering the season, something relatively new for the franchise. Let’s take a look at the forwards and try to figure out how minutes should be alotted.
In a previous article, we took a look at the position that has the most to prove for the New Orleans Pelicans, the centers. Anthony Davis was highly productive on the offensive and defensive side of the ball and while it is looking like the offensive focal point won’t be coming from the center position, they still need to show growth and productivity.
Today we are going to look at our forwards and evaluate exactly who should get significant roles within the rotation. With the addition of the number one overall pick, Zion Williamson, and former second overall pick back in 2016, Brandon Ingram, and then young players like Christian Wood and undrafted forward Zylan Cheatham—the New Orleans Pelicans have strong potential from the forward positions.
With Zion Williamson being the focal point of the New Orleans Pelicans’ immediate and long term future, reasonable expectations need to be given as to not bury these players before they get the chance to prove themselves. David Griffin has done a lot to ease the pressure off of the rookie phenom and younger players and insist the veterans and Jrue Holiday will be the ones to lead this team.
While it has yet to be seen, the franchise is behind Griffin and his vision for the future of the Pelicans and we need to trust in him. So let us take a look at this young group of forwards who will be looked on to grow and contribute for the New Orleans Pelicans.
