Many considered Brandon Ingram the top prize in the Anthony Davis trade haul. The second-team All-Rookie was the second pick in the 2016 NBA draft. Considered to be a part of the post-Kobe Bryant era rebuild for the Los Angeles Lakers, Ingram has shown offensive growth over the course of his three-year career thus far.
Injuries have plagued him the last two seasons, missing the rest of the 2017-18 season on concussion protocol and this past season with a DVT blood clot in his arm. Still, it is hard to not see the improvements in his game since entering the NBA.
He has the potential of being an elite defender but hasn’t shown consistency in that regard quite yet; he’ll be only 22-years-old by the season’s start and will have plenty of time to grow his skill set. As potentially the starting Small Forward for the New Orleans Pelicans, he’s probably going to have to play more off-ball than what he’s accustomed too and his perimeter shooting will need to improve—Ingram’s got to prove he can coincide with this roster.
Out of the massive spotlight of Los Angeles and out from the overbearing shadow of playing with and next to LeBron James, a breakout season could be in store for Brandon Ingram in his first season with the New Orleans Pelicans.
