The New Orleans Pelicans have more guard depth than ever before. How will they divvy up the minutes to keep everyone happy?

The forwards have been examined. To find who will fit behind Brandon Ingram and Zion Williamson we now take a look at our guards. Lonzo Ball, Jrue Holiday, JJ Redick, and Josh Hart comprise the top of the group with young rotation players like Frank Jackson, E’twuan Moore, Trevon Bluiett, and rookie Nickeil Alexander-Walker.

As it has been stated by David Griffin, Zion Williamson will not be the driving force that will carry the New Orleans Pelicans into the future. That leadership role still belongs to a two-time All-Defense star Jrue Holiday.

Sweet sentiment, defuse pressure off of Zion, and a valid point: Zion Williamson is 19 years old and shouldn’t be given the task of franchise savior and weight bearer. As polarizing and freakishly talented as he is, he is not LeBron James or Kobe Bryant. Jrue should definitely be the undisputed leader of the team on and off the court.

With the addition of Lonzo Ball and Josh Hart from the Anthony Davis trade and JJ Redick from free agency, there is no shortage of talent at the guard spot. Now we just have to see how the younger players pan out and who has the chance to stick to the team. Someone might have to float between New Orleans and the G-League.

Alvin Gentry has worked with guards like Chris Paul, Steph Curry, Klay Thompson and Steve Nash so if anyone knows how to get the most from guards it will be coach Gentry. Not to say that any of these guys will be like the four stars in Gentry’s past but if the New Orleans Pelicans can get anything close to overall production like those men, the future will be extremely bright, and not just because of Zion Williamson.
