Josh Hart quickly became a New Orleans Pelicans fan favorite through his social media interaction. Can he help meld the reserve units together?

The final player to address from the Anthony Davis trade haul: Josh Hart. Hart was, at times, considered a steal at 30th overall after the Utah Jazz traded his rights to the Los Angeles Lakers. While being a bench player and spot starter during his time in Los Angeles, his 3 point shooting ability will be valuable to the Pelicans as shooting has never been more imperative in today’s NBA game.

While hoping for an expanded role in his second year, it was reduced by the resigning of Kentavius Caldwell-Pope and the free-agent signing of Lance Stephenson impeded on the minutes Hart could have gotten. While not exactly getting the minutes you would want to give a young developing player, he should see a better role with the New Orleans Pelicans than he did with the Los Angeles Lakers as they go for a younger front on the team.

While he won’t be the starting 2 guard with Jrue Holiday clearly cemented in that role, he will contribute with a nice career 36.1% from the 3 point line. With the New Orleans Pelicans ranking 21st in 3 point attempts and 24 in 3 point percentage in 2018-19, Hart’s sharpshooting will be a breath of fresh air.

Alvin Gentry should not be concerned about a drop off on defense. Hart’s career .9 steals will help off the bench and hopefully, his defense will continue to develop as his career grows in New Orleans.
