Lonzo Ball dropped a new music video with Kenneth Paige. The New Orleans Pelicans new point guard can now lay claim to best NBA rapper ever.

Players have many ways to express themselves, and many players use their platform to show their off-court personalities. The New Orleans Pelicans are a great example. Some players choose to express themselves on a podcast, most all take to social media, and a rare few NBA players have the audacity to try and rap their narrative.

Lonzo Ball chose the last, and he might have just laid his claim to being the best rapper in NBA Rap History. Ball’s latest song Doin Something is just the latest catchy song to be released.

There’s no need to beat dead horses and kill other rappers. Most did it to themselves. Marvin Bagley may have played a small part in some Dame-age. Lonzo moved passed taking shots at others well. He is working on his injury rehab to take his first true playoff shot with the New Orleans Pelicans this upcoming season.

The New Orleans Pelicans insisted the Lakers include Lonzo Ball in the Anthony Daivs trade haul. Ball’s last Lakers season was cut short due to injury, but it gave him time to reflect on what truly matters, which he says in this song is providing for his young daughter.

Last summer Ball went in on teammate Kyle Kuzma and some wondered if he went too far. This summer, Lonzo Ball released a song of maturity and what could be the best song an NBA player has ever released.

The official music video directed by Evan Crocker is simply smooth, not too overly complex nor cliche. The bars are just as refined, not too choppy and telling the narrative that needs to be told in the artist Lonzo Ball’s eyes.

This is a well put together song, with actual spoken and sung lyrics. None of that mumbling for Lonzo Ball, he is audibly and obviously a talented musician. In fact, he is close to becoming the best NBA rapper ever.

The Zo x Kenneth Paige joint is a fire banger and whatever other wet adjectives kids use these days. Focusing on ‘Zo, his flow hits the mood and beat perfectly, as does the story. HIs opening on the beat could be put up with any in the history of rap.

Cap low, Eyes low. Chill mode.

Lonzo Ball is not about any negative drama with his daughter’s mother. He lifts that cap and his eyes to see a better future for his family through basketball and has fun expressing his journey through music. Lonzo Ball is truly Doin Something to be proud of, this song is just one of many.

This song is also begging for a New Orleans bounce remix, especially the hook. The LA abbreviation already exist for both of Lonzo’s homes. Saying Metairie instead of Miami works just find. Though it could be Bay St. Louis, that part still needs some work. The potential is there though.

The New Orleans Pelicans hope Lonzo Ball can be the point guard to “pass it to the homie” Jrue Holiday better than anyone else has, leading to team to the playoffs in the process. It may delay his next summer release, but surely Ball would trade studio time for an NBA Finals appearance.
