New Orleans Pelicans Jrue Holiday
PORTLAND, OR – NOVEMBER 1: Jrue Holiday #11 of the New Orleans Pelicans shoots the ball against the Portland Trail Blazers on November 1, 2018, at the Moda Center in Portland, Oregon. The last time Jrue Holiday was in the playoffs, he made a star turn against the Portland Trail Blazers.

Holiday blocked shots and pointed at dunk victims with glee against the Portland Trail Blazers. Now, Griffin and the New Orleans Pelicans are asking Holiday for a full season of that level of domination.

Portland is paying CJ McCollum and Damian Lilliard like All-NBA stars. With Golden State missing Klay Thompson, Portland has the most potent offensive backcourt in the NBA. Ball and Holiday might be the most formidable defensive pairing. That matchup alone is worth the price of admission.

Favors and Williamson will battle Hassan Whiteside and Jusuf Nurkic. Nicolo Melli could be the answer for the Trail Blazer’s floor stretching big Zach Collins. The reserve backcourt units would be interesting as well. The New Orleans Pelicans backcourt roster depth will be tested by Anfernee Simmons, Rodney Hood, and Kent Bazemore.

Games against Portland might need to be earmarked as expected forty-minute nights for Jrue Holiday. He is training to play full games and will be needed to do so against All-Star backcourts.

Dame Time was a broken clock against Jrue Holiday. The New Orleans Pelicans playoff window is not truly open until the team can again compete with the team they swept two seasons ago.
