New Orleans Pelicans: Why the team will go over the Vegas win total
J.J. Redick – Much-Needed Shooting
The Pelicans signed J.J. Redick to a two-year, $26.5 million deal this summer, after playing his previous two seasons in Philadelphia helping the Sixers reach the playoffs in both campaigns. Redick averaged 17.1 points per game in year 1 with the Sixers and 18.1 this past season which was a career high in scoring for the guard out of Duke. He is a career 41 percent three-point shooter although he had a less efficient season shooting beyond the arc last year, registering at around a 39.7 percent clip.
The Pelicans will rely heavily on his ability to roll off screens and hit open shots in transition, as well as catch-and-shoot opportunities. Redick was noted as a great leader in the Sixers locker room and should fit in perfectly having to take on a leadership role in New Orleans especially given the age of the roster and the adjustments that will be needed on a day-to-day basis. He will help the young rookies through their growing pains, offer a voice, mentorship and any daily difficulties to adjusting to life in the NBA.
If he can do this along with knock down his threes, expect J.J. to fill a big role on this Pelicans team this season.
