3 coaches who could fix the New Orleans Pelicans next season
By Willie Lutz
Dave Joerger, ex-Memphis Grizzlies & Sacramento Kings Head Coach
Former head coach of the Memphis Grizzlies and Sacramento Kings David Joerger is certainly going to draw a lot of interest from around the league this season after deciding not to find a new squad.
Joerger has a career 245-247 record, including his role in leading the Grizzlies to the playoffs in all three seasons he acted as their head coach. Prior to taking the head coaching gig in Memphis, Joerger spent six seasons as one of their team’s key assistants.
His last gig ended unsanctimoniously in Sacramento after nearly leading the Kings to the playoffs a season ago, only to be axed in large part due to a dicey relationship with the front office.
Last season in Sacramento, Joerger led a renaissance in Kings’ basketball as the team quickly became a League Pass favorite for their up-tempo style and downhill play, most notably from quick-twitch point guard De’Aaron Fox.
Already employing an up-tempo offensive style, Joerger could be an immediate fit on the scoring end for the Pelicans.
However, if he becomes the head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans, Joerger will need to bring the same intensity he had when he worked with the Grizzlies.
Continuing to be swiss cheese on the defensive end of the floor this season, the Pelicans could certainly use a coach who’s going to force them to get in shape and play hard on both ends.
