Lonzo Ball tosses the alley-oop to Zion Williamson in the team’s first practice of training camp, drawing a roar from the team

One of the most exciting things Pelicans fans can look forward to will be the lobs between Lonzo Ball and Zion Williamson. Before the season, we already getting tastes of this duo, but now they’re actually about to pair as a lob combo.

Fitting well in Alvin Gentry’s downhill offense, Lonzo is at his best when using his speed and vision to initiate the team’s half-court sets.

Where Ball struggled as a Laker in driving to the rim to create offensive looks for his teammates, he’s started to develop a knack for those possessions with New Orleans.

During this dunk in practice, New Orleans Pelicans players and personnel can be heard going absolutely wild after Ball chucks Williamson a distance lob for a FEROCIOUS dunk.

This was just a glimpse at what Zion Williamson can do when sharing the floor with a hot-passing, creative point guard like Lonzo ball.

With the two sharing the floor, the Pelicans should be able to create a lot of good looks around the rim. Ball has a knack for finding open players in tight windows, even recently passing more from the painted area, where a player like Zion can trail the guard, waiting for an easy at-rim feed.

Per Cleaning the Glass, Ball’s passing has been pretty efficent this season for the Pelicans, as his assist rate ranks in the 83rd percentile (28.1%) and assist-to-usage rate ranks in the 88th percentile (1.27) among his position group.

On the season, Ball averages 6.3 assists per game but continues to take more control of the offense as the team focuses on shifting Jrue Holiday off-ball.

With Zion being just 19-years-old and Lonzo being just 22-years-old, the two could pair to make some special moments happen around the rim for years to come. The dunk above is just the first of what seems like an incredibly promising pairing between the two young players.
