On his very first dunk of preseason play, Zion flew over the Hawks

Not that NBA fans forgot, but Zion Williamson put on an absolute clinic during limited appearances in a New Orleans Pelicans uniform during the preseason.

Opening the team’s exhibition slate against the Atlanta Hawks, Zion put seven-footer Damian Jones on an absolute poster in the first few minutes of the game.

In that appearance, Zion finished with 16 points, 7 rebounds, 3 assists, and 3 steals while shooting 6-of-13 from the floor in 27 minutes of action. The Pelicans won that game 133-109 over Atlanta.

Over the course of the preseason, Williamson averaged 23.3 points, 6.5 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and shot 71.4% from the floor in a record-breaking preseason effort that ended one game early.

While he had quite a few thrilling moments during his four games of preseason play, opening your preseason debut with an emphatic dunk like the one above is a good way to immediately grab the attention of your peers.

Certainly, fans can’t help but remember Zion’s exciting play during the preseason, but more probably forgot the win over Atlanta opened the Pelicans’ 5-0 run before the regular season.

While titles aren’t won before the season (obviously), Williamson only played four of those games, and the team endured a painful 13-game losing streak, it’s fun to recall the good times of being the best team in the league in some sort of standings.
