Is there hope in New York?

Scouting Report. New York Knicks. 27. 11. player. Pick Analysis. Shooting Guard. R.J. Barrett

When 19-year-old R.J. Barrett was drafted by the Knicks he had “bust” written all over him. With so little success drafting guards, it seemed like Barrett might just be the next guard who couldn’t handle the lights of the Big Apple.

Then something strange started to happen: Barrett played well. Barrett came out of the gate gunning and hasn’t looked back.

Though his scoring numbers have been up and down, Barrett has flashed enough high-end scoring potential to have Knicks’ fans excited. He has posted 10 games of at least 20 points, including a career-best 27 against the Hawks.

Barrett is averaging 14.1 points, five rebounds and 2.6 assists for the season, but has blown up in his last few games, averaging 20 points per game on 50 percent shooting from 3-point range.

Barrett has the length with a 6-foot-10 wingspan to be one of the best shooting guards in the league, especially if he continues to improve from behind the arc, both in percentage and volume.

The New York Knicks’ fans are never happy and have had more off-the-court drama than usual, even for them, but one thing they can get excited about is R.J. Barrett, who is proving the Knicks finally made a smart choice when they nabbed him with the third pick.
