Anthony Edwards’ Weaknesses

A shooting guard with a 77.2 percent free throw percentage, even in college, isn’t great.

He would need to be a little more patient and take the time to develop his free throw shot.

In fact, if scouts have one thing to worry about with Edwards, it is his shooting in general.

It took Lonzo a few seasons to get better at the charity stripe, so a more offensive player should be able to improve his shot.

Edwards shot just 29.4 percent from long-range, but that didn’t stop him from chucking them up to the tune of 7.7 attempts per game.

While that kind of volume is great for an NBA shooting guard, the accuracy needs work, especially when Edwards has to adapt to the much more difficult NBA 3-point shot.

But as the focus of the Bulldogs’ offense, Edwards didn’t get a lot of great looks and was often double-teamed every time he touched the ball.

That will change if he is on the New Orleans Pelicans, who have enough offensive weapons to take the focus off Edwards.

His 3-point percentage will grow if he learns to take better shots and not jack up Stephen Curry-level half-courters.

A better mid-range game, yes that’s right, mid-range, will  also benefit his growth as a 3-point shooter.

Edwards projects as a guy who can use his strength to get to the rim and finish, which should force defenders to back off, allowing him to get more space for his shot.

If he develops like his comps, a career in-between Wade and Mitchell would be great.

A big three of Ball-Edwards-Zion or Edwards-Ingram-Zion would be absolutely terrifying for opposing NBA teams and could potentially get New Orleans to the promised land.
