Mock Draft 2.0: New Orleans Pelicans Jump into Top Four
It’s never obvious what the New York Knicks will do in the draft, and Knicks fans might not even be excited if their team got the number one pick in a year without a consensus superstar.
But with a glut of power forwards already on the roster and not much talent at shooting guard, Anthony Edwards makes a lot of sense here, especially if the Knicks view R.J. Barrett as a wing.
An Edwards/Barrett pairing makes a lot of sense either way, as they both have plus size and could potentially defend both shooting guards and small forwards.
Edwards is only 18, which makes him a risk, but he already has an NBA frame and has flashed the type of scoring ability that should translate to the next level.
The biggest question mark around Edwards is his shot, as he only shoots 29.4 percent from long-range on 7.7 attempts per game.
Edwards was the focal point of opposing defenses this year and was asked to do a lot for the Georgia Bulldogs, which may have contributed to his sub-par shooting.
But Edwards has athleticism and ability to finish in traffic, which has drawn comparisons to Donovan Mitchell and even Dwyane Wade.
Edwards has the athleticism to be an elite defender but it will take some time, as will his shot.
The Knicks have plenty of time, as they are not going to be competing anytime soon.
They could go a lot of different ways here, but Edwards makes a lot of sense and there is growing consensus that he is going number one.
