New Orleans Pelicans: Where does Redick rank among active NBA shooters?
By Willie Lutz
2. Klay Thompson, Golden State Warriors
2019-2020 Shooting Stats: Inactive – Recovering from Torn ACL in 2019 NBA Finals
Career Shooting Stats: 615 games (578 starts), 19.5 PPG, 55.1% effective field goal rate, 41.9% on 7 three-point attempts per game
Playing a gigantic role during the Warriors’ five-straight runs to the NBA Finals, Klay Thompson is one of the best knock-down shooters in today’s league, even if he won’t step foot on the court during the 2019-2020 season.
Thompson is taller than the average two-guard but probably around average size for the modern wing in this league, which makes him a tricky cover.
Further, Thompson is at his best when he creates off the ball, allowing a ball handler to wait until he’s in the perfect position to unleash his sweet jump-shot.
Plus when he gets hot, he can’t be stopped, like when he erupted for 37 points in a single quarter against the Sacramento Kings in 2015.
Though the end of his 2019 campaign ended In terribly, tearing his ACL in Game 6 of the NBA Finals in a game that allowed the Toronto Raptors to seal an NBA title, Thompson will return as one of the league’s most feared shooters for the 2020-2021 season.
1. Steph Curry, Golden State Warriors
2019-2020 Shooting Stats: 5 games (5 starts), 20.8 PPG, 47.6% effective field goal rate, 24.5% on 6.6 three-point attempts per game
Career Shooting Stats: 699 games (693 starts), 23.5 PPG, 58.1% effective field goal rate, 43.5% on 8.9 three-point attempts per game
Not playing a ton of games this season for his Golden State Warriors after leading the team to their five consecutive NBA Finals appearances, Stephen Curry is the only logical choice for the best shooter in today’s league.
With the ability to pull-up from essentially anywhere on the court, even knocking down the off-balance looks, Curry is incredibly hard to defend and is probably the most exciting player to watch when he’s hot.
Regarded for his work ethic and strict routine, fans line up hours early to get a chance to watch Curry simply go through his pregame shooting routine.
The two-time NBA MVP, three-time NBA Champion, and six-time All-Star will go down as one of the best players in the history of this league and is very likely to go down as the greatest shooter of all time, or at the very least, greatest three-point shooter.
Love him or hate him, Curry is the best shooter the league has to offer right now, even though he missed a sizable portion of the 2019-2020 NBA season after breaking his hand early in the year.
