The New Orleans Pelicans would pick 12th if the NBA Draft were today. We’ve ranked the last dozen 12th picks to see what type of player they might get.

Without some help from the Lottery Gods, the New Orleans Pelicans will be choosing at the back-end of the lottery in the 2020 NBA Draft.

They are currently tied for 12th with the Sacramento Kings with a 5.7 percent chance of jumping into the top-four.

Lady Luck smiled at the New Orleans Pelicans last year, when they were able to buck the odds and land the number one pick, which turned into Zion Williamson.

Only the Cleveland Cavaliers seem to get lucky in the draft two years in a row, so for the sake of this argument, we are going to assume the New Orleans Pelicans don’t make a big leap.

That would leave them with either the 12th or 13th pick if the season has to be cancelled, not a bad spot to be in, especially in a draft without a consensus superstar.

This could be one of the drafts where the best player goes outside of the top-five or even the top-ten, as most agree that there is no significant gap in talent between the top picks and those who will go in the teens.

If we look back at the history of 12th picks in the NBA Draft, there haven’t been many stars, but there are some very good and interesting players, especially lately.

With more young players in the draft than ever before, teams are just as likely to find value later in the draft as they are at the top.

The New Orleans Pelicans are in an enviable position, as they are loaded with young ascending talent and do not have to draft for need.
