Devin Vassell’s Weaknesses

Vassell’s floor as a competent 3-and-D wing should make him a fairly safe pick for the New Orleans Pelicans, but he does have a few flaws as a prospect.

Vassell is not much of a playmaker, averaging just 1.4 assists per game, and he lacks the elite athleticism to create his own shot.

He projects more as a catch-and-shoot type wing, a guy who will hit the corner 3-pointer, but is not going to get shots for his teammates.

Even though Vassell’s 3-point percentage is on the right side of 40 percent, he was not a high-volume shooter.

Vassell had just seven games with five or more 3-point attempts, not enough for him to project as a high-volume 3-point shooter at the next level.

Vassell did go 7 for 7 from behind the arc against Virginia Tech for 27 points overall, numbers that should alleviate some of those concerns.

The truth is that Vassell’s weaknesses are few, and even if he never develops into a top scorer, he could be very useful to the New Orleans Pelicans.
