New Orleans Pelicans: Ranking the Top-Ten Backcourts in the NBA
#9: Kyrie Irving and Spencer Dinwiddie, Brooklyn Nets
This backcourt could have been ranked higher, but was dinged a bit because of Kyrie Irving‘s injury history.
Irving is one of the top point guards in the league, an otherworldly scorer who has shown he can put a title team on his back.
There is some argument about whether he makes his teams better, as he’s had chemistry issues pretty much everywhere he’s been, but you can’t argue with the talent.
Spencer Dinwiddie has taken off since he was foolishly traded by the Detroit Pistons, who can’t seem to find a draft pick that has success with the team.
Dinwiddie just keeps getting better, increasing his scoring average every year.
This season he was averaging 20.6 points and 6.8 assists and his height at 6-foot-5 makes him a difficult cover for any guard.
Irving only played in 20 games this season, but has done enough over his career to get the benefit of the doubt.
He was averaging a career-high 27.4 points in limited action this season, adding 6.4 assists and showing why he’s a perennial All-NBA selection.
Irving and Dinwiddie form a powerful backcourt due in Brooklyn and when Kevin Durant returns next season the Nets are going to be a force.
