New Orleans Pelicans: 3 superstars we’d love to see next to Zion Williamson
By Willie Lutz
Kristaps Porzingis, Dallas Mavericks
Still finding his footing but coming a long way in his first season with the Dallas Mavericks, Kristaps Porzingis would be an intriguing fit for the Pelicans.
Porzingis appeared in 51 games this season for the Mavericks, where he averaged 19.2 points, 9.5 rebounds, 2.1 blocks, and shot 34.9% from three on 7.1 perimeter attempts per contest.
While Porzingis doesn’t play the role of a traditional center due to his lengthy 7’3″, 240 pounds, it allows him to create amazing space within an offense, clearing out a big who often has to try to check him on the perimeter.
With the New Orleans Pelicans, Porzingis would theoretically open up all kinds of scoring opportunities for Zion Williamson. Zion would be able to take advantage of players like Anthony Davis or Montrezl Harrell, who have to keep Porzingis checked on the perimeter.
As of now, it seems more likely that Porzingis will be a big part of the Mavericks’ core heading into the future, one that seems likely to contend for titles with Luka Doncic as their leading man.
The fact that Dallas inked Porzingis to a max-money extension to begin the prior offseason makes this pretty impossible for New Orleans, at least for the next five-or-so years. Nevertheless, the pairing would still be quite tantalizing.
