Best Pairings on the New Orleans Pelicans’ Roster
By Tim Burke
With the return of star duos across the NBA. Let’s take a look at who on this New Orleans Pelicans’ roster could join the elite pairings in the league.
In trading Anthony Davis to the Los Angeles Lakers the New Orleans Pelicans created the duo with the best record in the western conference when AD teamed up with LeBron James.
Right across the hall from the Lakers, the Los Angeles Clippers signed Kawhi Leonard and traded for Paul George, creating a championship contender of their own.
George’s former team the Oklahoma City Thunder broke up their own superstar pairing when trading George, but they went one step further and sent the other half of that tandem Russell Westbrook to Houston for All-Star Chris Paul.
This deal reunited Westbrook with his former running-mate James Harden on the Rockets.
Damian Lillard and C.J. McCollum have been teammates in Portland since the Trailblazers drafted McCollum 10th overall in the 2013 draft.
The Minnesota Timberwolves only got one game out of Karl Anthony-Towns and D’Angelo Russell together but the team must be ecstatic about the thought of that pairing (at least on the offensive end).
The 2019 draft also brought an up-and-coming duo within the Pelicans own division, when the Memphis Grizzlies chose Ja Morant with the second overall pick and paired him the second year Jaren Jackson Jr. (Brandon Clarke would make a pretty compelling case as a duo with Jackson Jr. if Morant wasn’t around).
Denver has paired Nikola Jokic with Jamal Murray to create one of the deadliest assist combinations in recent memory.
These duos are just in the western conference.
The New Orleans Pelicans used the the Davis trade and the 2019 draft to give themselves a few players (Zion Williamson, Brandon Ingram and Lonzo Ball) to go with Jrue Holiday and force its way into the best duos in the league conversation.
We ranked the best duos on the New Orleans Pelicans and you’ll be surprised what we found.
