Two Backup Point Guards

Though the next two guys have started games for their respective teams, they have the skills and temperaments to be quality backups.

Scouting Report. Patty Mills. #9. Pick Analysis. Point Guard. Toronto Raptors. player. 81

The Raptors lost DeRozan in our re-draft but picked up another player who seems to fit their mold. Patty Mills has been a long-time backup for the San Antonio Spurs and has carved out a place for himself as a change-of-pace bench scorer.

There might be guys with more talent, but Mills is one of those players who makes a winning team better, a selfless bench guy who can absolutely be the sixth man on a contender.

He would have been good for anyone, including Toronto.

Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Milwaukee Bucks. 89. Point Guard. Ricky Rubio. #10. player

Rubio was originally the first point guard taken in this draft, but in the re-draft he’s the fifth, taking the place of Jrue Holiday.

The Bucks originally took Brandon Jennings here. Jennings was an exciting, gifted scorer, but injuries plagued his career with the Bucks and eventually the Pistons.

Rubio is not a scorer, but one of the best passers in the NBA and he’s still getting it done. Rubio set the table for guys like Lonzo Ball of the New Orleans Pelicans, large point guards who can facilitate but aren’t the greatest shooters.
