Tre Jones’ Weaknesses

Although Jones is already a plus-defender, he may lack the size necessary to defend some shooting guards at the next level.

This limits how he can be used and might give the New Orleans Pelicans pause, as they seem to like big guards who can defend multiple positions. Jones’ has just a 6-foot-4 wingspan, which is a little on the short side, even for a point guard.

Although Jones’ shot has improved, he does not project as a volume scorer and only had an effective field goal percentage of 47.4 percent.

Jones mid and short-range shot is not there and teams tend to back off to give him those instead of letting him drive to the lane.

Jones will also be 20-years-old at the time of the draft, so he is not one of the younger prospects, but the Pelicans may not see this as a detriment with so many young players already on the roster, including a couple of teenagers in Zion and Hayes.

In a draft with plenty of point guard talent, Jones may be the guy who gets overlooked, as he doesn’t have the one flashy NBA skill, but he is solid all-around and will fill multiple needs for the Pelicans.
