NBA Mock Draft 3.0: The New Orleans Pelicans Land the Best Shooter
Aaron Nesmith could be one of the players who makes a big jump on draft day, as he can do something that all teams covet: shoot the 3-point shot.
He has missed some time with injuries but Nesmith is shooting an outstanding 52.2 percent from 3-point range.
The New Orleans Pelicans will look to surround Zion Williamson with guys who can shoot, and Nesmith might be the best shooter in the draft.
He is also one of the biggest question marks, as he only played 14 games and scouts haven’t seen much of him.
Nesmith can definitely shoot, but doesn’t do much else.
His assist and rebounding numbers are not impressive, and he’s not a good defender or ball handler.
But Nesmith has a 6-foot-10 inch wingspan, so profiles as a guy who can defend multiple positions at the next level. He’s not there yet, but defense is usually the last thing to come for young players and Nesmith could evolve into a solid defender.
He would also give the New Orleans Pelicans a potential replacement for sharpshooter J.J. Redick, who will be entering the final year of his contract and may sign somewhere else or retire.
Regardless of his perceived weaknesses, teams are always looking to add shooting and Nesmith can do that, getting 23 points per game in a limited sample.
His lack of overall game may hurt his stock a bit, but Nesmith is one of the players who could rocket up the draft board if he has good workouts.
