#6 Anthony Davis, New Orleans Pelicans

Like Rose, Anthony Davis‘ hype was inflated by an outstanding performance in his first and only season in the NCAA.

Davis won NCAA Player of the Year honors on his way to a National Championship and put on an absolute display in March Madness.

Davis wowed fans with his defense, blocking a record six shots in the championship game, but he also flashed an emerging offensive game that would be polished in the NBA.

When the New Orleans Pelicans got the first pick in 2012 there was no doubt they would take Davis, who seemed like the future of big men in the league and still does.

Davis’ first season was derailed by injuries but he still did enough to make first team All-Rookie and come in second in the Rookie of the Year voting.

At this point it appeared as though Davis’ ceiling for the New Orleans Pelicans might be a pick-and-roll center who would defend the rim and run the floor.

But Davis put on 10 lbs. of muscle in the offseason and came back a new player. He’s continued to add skills to his bag and is now one of the top-five players in the NBA.

We all know how things turned out for Davis and the New Orleans Pelicans, but for one year they had the most hyped rookie in the league.
