Point Guard

New Orleans has drafted one Hall of Fame point guard and brought an All-Star with the team when they moved.

Chris Paul – Starter

Nola stats – 6 seasons (2005-11) 18.5 points 4.6 rebounds, 9.9 assists, 2.4 steals, 47.1 FG%, 425 games, 37.1 min per game

The Point God himself, New Orleans fans have mixed feelings when it comes to Paul just like they do with Davis. But there’s no denying his talent, he still holds the franchise records for assists, steals and Win Shares.

He could also be counted upon to get a bucket when his teams needed a score. Paul’s worst shooting season (43 FG%, 28.2 3P%) was also his rookie year where he averaged 36 minutes for a team that was relocated due to Hurricane Katrina.

Paul would nail mid-range jumpers from the elbow when teams left him half a step open or dump the ball to Tyson Chandler rolling to the rim. One of the most devastating pick and roll combinations of recent memory.

Although Paul is a short NBA player, he was a lockdown defender who could put the clamps on an opposing scorer and get plenty of steals.

Paul playing in a three guard lineup next to Holiday and Maravich would be nearly unstoppable and that’s not counting the two giants (Davis, Chandler) this team has dominating the paint.

Baron Davis – 8th Man

Nola stats – 3 seasons (2002-05) 20.2 points, 4.0 rebounds, 7.0 assists, 2.1 steals, 39.8 FG%, 135 games, 38.3 min per games

Davis came to New Orleans with the team when the franchise relocated from Charlotte. Baron would make the all-star game in the team’s second year in the new city.

Davis is often overlooked when it comes to remembering good guards from the first decade of this century. Injuries played their part in that, he missed time in both of his full seasons in New Orleans before being traded.

When healthy though Davis could fill up a box score with the best of ‘em. He fit with the hero ball style of the times and would force bad shots, shooting 32.4% for three on 7.4 attempts per game wouldn’t fly today.

A big point guard listed at 6’3” Davis was an above average defender and led the league in steals with 2.4 in his 2003-04 all-star campaign.

Because the other guards on this roster are so good Davis will get fewer minutes than them but his impact once he gets on the floor would be great.
