All-Time Series (67 Games): Lakers 43-24

Every championship team seems to have one veteran dragon that they must slay to get a title.

Jordan had the Bad Boys Pistons and Magic’s Lakers. The Pistons had the Showtime Lakers. LeBron had the Goin’ to Work era Pistons etc…

All title teams go through a similar trajectory, which is to lose to more experience, veteran teams, to learn from that experience and eventually vanquish their bully.

This is the case with the New Orleans Pelicans and Los Angeles Lakers. LeBron James and the Lakers are one of the best teams in the league, full of veterans with plenty of experience going to war in the playoffs.

The Pelicans are an up and coming young team trying to get back to the playoffs and take that first step towards a title.

For the next few seasons that title is probably going to go through Los Angeles. Couple that with the LeBron vs. Zion hype and the residual Anthony Davis hatred, and you have the makings of one of the best rivalries in the NBA.

LeBron is not ready to give up his crown and seemed to step up his game against the Pelicans, who were there to try and take it.

LeBron’s Lakers swept the New Orleans Pelicans this season and made them look like the little brother in the process.

But little brother eventually grows up and it’s going to be fun watching the Pelicans try to topple the older, more experienced Lakers as part of their coming of age.
