New Orleans Pelicans: 2020 Second Round Mock Draft
The New Orleans Pelicans have three picks in the 2nd round of the 2020 NBA draft, so we took a look at what they might do with them.
The New Orleans Pelicans don’t have to worry about draft picks for awhile.
After the Anthony Davis trade with the Lakers, the Pelicans are sitting on a chest of picks, draft capital that can be conveyed into young talent or used in trades for more established players.
The Pelicans have three second round picks in the 2020 draft and there are a number of ways they could use them.
They might try to package all three to move up in the second round or possibly even into the back end of the first.
They could take some high ceiling, low floor prospects to develop in the G-League or overseas.
They might even try to draft an older college player with experience who may not have the highest ceiling but is ready to contribute right now.
It’s nice to have options.
The New Orleans Pelicans currently own the 39th pick (from Washington), their own 42nd pick and the 60th pick that they received from the Bucks. This is in addition to their own lottery pick that will likely be 12th or 13th.
It’s extremely unlikely that all four picks will end up on the Pelicans, as they simply don’t have the roster space and already have a number of talented young players that are probably better than anyone they are going to draft.
What’s more likely is that the Pelicans take a flyer on longer term prospects that they can develop on the Erie Bayhawks or stash overseas.
We’ll take a look at some players that might interest the Pelicans in the second round, assuming that they keep and use all of their picks.
