Con of the New Orleans Pelicans trading for 1st Pick: The Ball Brothers

There’s a lot to like about having LaMelo and Lonzo on the same team, but there are also plenty of reasons to run away.

The constant media attention this would surely generate could be a distraction to the young Pelicans, who are still adjusting to the spotlight that comes with having Zion.

Adding LaMelo would potentially turn this team into a media circus.

While LaVar Ball has been mostly quiet since Lonzo joined New Orleans, there is zero chance that would last if LaMelo were there as well.

How long before LaVar started calling out Zion? Oh wait, he already did.

How long before he starts questioning the coaching? What if LaMelo doesn’t get as much playing time as his crazy, helicopter dad thinks he should? Do you think he’ll stay quiet? No chance.

This has the potential to be a disaster, especially for a young team that hasn’t yet been under the microscope.

While LaMelo is a nice basketball fit, the potential for disaster is there, and the Pelicans might find a player just as talented at 13 who doesn’t have all the baggage.

Of course, it’s no guarantee that the Pelicans would choose Ball with the number one pick, but he probably makes the most sense if they were to trade up.
