When the NBA announced its 22-team format that includes the New Orleans Pelicans, J.J. Redick was able to keep an important streak alive.

When J.J. Redick joined the New Orleans Pelicans he knew it was going to be difficult to keep one of his most cherished streaks alive.

This one has nothing to do with 3-point shots (though J.J. Redick has hit plenty of those), consecutive games played or other individual goals.

J.J. Redick wants to make the playoffs.

Redick has not missed the playoffs once in his 13-year career, an impressive streak that has now spanned five teams.

It’s partly luck, but partly him, as Redick has always been a solid team player who can fit and contribute on any roster in the NBA.

This season will be J.J. Redick’s toughest challenge, as the New Orleans Pelicans have a difficult road to the playoffs.

Not only do they have to beat out the Suns, Spurs, Kings and Trail Blazers for the 9th seed, but they have to stay within four games of Memphis in the process.

Even if they are able to overtake the Trail Blazers and claim the 9th seed, they would then have to win a three game playoff with Memphis in which the Grizzles start a game ahead.

But J.J. Redick takes this streak seriously, ask Zion Williamson, who got some tough NSFW words from Redick when he joined the New Orleans Pelicans:

If the New Orleans Pelicans do manage to make the playoffs, number 14 will potentially be the sweetest yet for Redick, though the prize is a first round playoff series with the Lakers.

Redick has spent the hiatus doing interviews and breaking down film on his podcast, but he’s undoubtedly wondered if he was going to get a chance for playoff appearance number 14.

The New Orleans Pelicans got their chance, now they just have to do the hard part, win.
