Two Players the New Orleans Pelicans Could Sign for the Stretch Run
The New Orleans Pelicans Should Consider Free Agent Jordan Bell
Jordan Bell
Remember Jordan Bell?
A few years ago he was starting for one of the greatest teams of all-time as a rookie. Bell held his own and it looked like he’d have a successful career as a small ball center for Golden State.
It didn’t work out and somehow Bell finds himself in the G-League.
It’s shocking that no one grabbed him off of waivers and it’s almost certain that one of the 30 teams will give him a tryout at least before the season is over.
Bell is the ultimate all defense, no offense guy, as he can’t shoot and probably shouldn’t try.
What he can do is block shots, defend all manner of forwards and centers, and provide the New Orleans Pelicans with a small-ball option that doesn’t involve putting Zion Williamson at center.
Bell is another guy who might not be able to help now, but could be a valuable addition in the future. Signing him to a contract for the remainder of the season would give the Pels a chance to audition Bell and see if he could be a future fit.
He has many of the skills the Pelicans need, as he is a forward who can guard multiple positions, defend the rim and doesn’t need the ball in his hands to be effective.
If Bell could ever get his shot sorted out, he’d be a valuable 3-and-D player that the Pelicans could probably not afford in free agency. This is why the Pelicans should take the risk now, because if Bell improves he could be a low-cost steal at the forward position.
If the Pelicans play their cards right they could add a guy who could provide real value to the team next year at a fraction of the cost of most unrestricted free agents.
Bell is currently in the G-League but not under contract with a team, so he can sign with any franchise he chooses. He’s already got experience in the Finals and has proven he can handle the big stage.
The New Orleans Pelicans should try to capitalize on this opportunity to add players that might help them now and in the future.
