New Orleans Pelicans: Looking Back At The Worst Loss In Franchise History
How Did We Feel After This Game?
Simply put, very bad. Watching your favorite team lose a game like this was hard when it happened and even harder when doing it for “fun”. I would have to guess that most people (myself included) mostly stopped watching in the third quarter when the outcome was already decided and the LSU football game was starting. However I kept in on my laptop and was unhappy with my choice to do so.
There were some silver linings though, Jaxson Hayes had a decent game and got plenty of valuable experience playing with the starters. Along the same line J.J. Redick led the team with 15 points in this one while making only one three pointer. It was good to see him getting to the line and knocking down free throws (8-8 in the game).
Notes while watching the game.
- The Mavs city edition uniforms were not good this year, the “graffiti” look seemed to be reminiscent of the city editions that the Brooklyn Nets wore during the season or an “urban” Disney set.
- Should Dallas do a complete redesign of their logo and color scheme?
- “Baby Shark” was played over the PA system early in the second quarter. Was this just because the song was hugely popular at the time, or was it a shot at the Houston Astros who had lost the 2019 World Series to the Washington Nationals, Gerardo Parra used the song as his walk up music that year and it was a big thing for Nats fans; also this was nearly a month before MLB “punished” the Astros for sign stealing, you decide.
- The sideline reporter for this game, Erin Hartigan, noted the Kenrich “Papa Hustle” Williams cut out fried food from his diet this season. I can barely do that for a week.
- The New Orleans Pelicans average fewer free throw attempts than opponents, that difference is even more clear when they are the road team. Joel Meyers, the play-by-play announcer for Fox, noted that New Orleans gets 8.5 fewer free throws than opponents when they are the road team at this point in the season.
- Dallas ran out the famed Triple Dirk’s line up (Doncic, Porzingis and Kleber) late in the second quarter.
- Meyers also said that he heard the Knicks had the deal to trade Porzingis done before his last meeting with the team was finished. Seems like a bad way to run a team but it’s not surprising given the Knicks struggles this century.
- “Mavs Man” is a super creepy looking mascot. Maybe the team needs to look at redesigning him as well.
