New Orleans Pelicans: 3 players with the most to lose at NBA Disney
New Orleans Pelicans: Kenrich Williams has a lot to lose at NBA Disney
Kenrich Williams is another fringe player who could really hurt his value if he plays poorly or not at all in Orlando.
At 25-years-old, Williams has yet to establish himself in the league, though he does have some valuable skills.
Williams has been out with injury for a big chunk of the season and is eager to prove he can be the kind of 3-and-D wing the Pelicans had in mind when they decided to keep him and jettison Christian Wood, a move that they probably regret thus far.
If Williams is 100 percent healthy, he needs to show that he can be a lockdown defender against elite wings, otherwise, he really doesn’t have a place on this team.
Williams has shot just 30.6 percent from 3-point range for his career, so barring a miraculous improvement, he’ll make a roster based on his defense.
At 6-foot-6, 210 lbs., Williams has the size to defend multiple positions, which is a valuable commodity in the NBA. But if he can’t get off the Pelicans’ bench, gets torched on national TV or throws up a bunch of ugly bricks, Williams, like Moore, could find himself looking for work.
Williams is eager to show he can play and that he is a part of the Pelicans’ future. The Pels lack physicality and defense on the wing, and if Williams can provide that, he’d probably get himself a contract.
If things don’t go well for Williams, the Pelicans will likely let him go and he might find himself trying to play his way back into the NBA from the confines of the G-League.
These three guys are essentially trying out for the New Orleans Pelicans and the rest of the league when they take the floor in Orlando.
How they play will likely decide if they are back with the team, off to play somewhere else, or out of the league completely.
