New Orleans Pelicans’ rookie Zion Williamson is already worth a fortune at age 19, and now, so is his rookie card, after it sold for a hefty sum on eBay.

The New Orleans Pelicans got one of the most hyped players in history when they drafted Zion Williamson with the number one pick.

That hype is turning into dollars for one lucky collector, who was able to sell Zion Williamson’s rookie card for just under $100,000. Not bad for a guy who has played 19 games.

According to Darren Rovell of the Action Network:

New Orleans Pelicans: The Cost of Zion Williamson’s Rookie Card

The final total was $99,800 for the signed card and that is before shipping.

First of all, I have to admit that I didn’t know trading cards were still a thing. I’m old enough to remember when they were, but also remember telling all of my collector friends that they had better sell them before all of the old people died.

They didn’t listen and watched their cards plummet in value. Unless you own the Honus Wagner, baseball cards are now worth about as much as that chalky gum that came with them, which shows just how popular the New Orleans Pelicans’ rookie really is.

If I’m being honest, collecting stuff has never been my thing, so the idea of spending 100 k on a piece of paper is insane to me, but if looking at cards is your thing, you do you.

To give a sense of how Zion Williamson stacks up, you can buy a near mint Michael Jordan rookie card for about the same price, but won’t even sniff a LeBron James rookie card, one of which is expected to fetch over a million dollars in an upcoming auction.

The New Orleans Pelicans are more concerned about what Zion Williamson will fetch in contract negotiations, as the rookie is almost certain to be one of the top paid players in the NBA at some point.

So, if you have an extra hundred grand laying around, go pick up a Zion Williamson rookie card, or, you know, a new house.
