New Orleans Pelicans: What would it take to get Bradley Beal? Is he worth it?
New Orleans Pelicans: What would a Bradley Beal Trade Look Like?
If the Pelicans did inquire about Beal, the talks were preliminary and its doubtful any real offers were made. Usually in these situations teams just try to get a feel for what it might take.
Ideally the Pelicans could unload a few of their young players and a ton of draft picks, keeping their core intact, but the Wizards are not going to get fleeced, especially when Beal has made it clear that he is content in Washington.
The Wizards will want proven NBA talent and draft picks, that much is obvious. Here are the two deals that make the most sense.
The Jrue Holiday Package
This package makes the most sense for both teams, as Holiday and Beal’s salaries match up and both teams walk away with assets. The Pelicans get an All-NBA talent, while the Wizards get a player to pair with Wall, as well as future draft assets.
There are few teams with as many draft picks as the Pelicans, so they could easily afford to give up those picks and would still have their own in each of those years. The question is whether that would be enough, as the Wizards might want a younger talent in exchange for Beal.
It’s likely the Wizards would want at least one young guy to build around, so they would probably counter with another offer.
The Lonzo Ball Package
This trade would allow the Wizards to get something now and in the future, as Lonzo is already very good and will likely get better, and they’d still get two draft picks in the first round.
The New Orleans Pelicans might balk at this one, as Lonzo is still very young, is going to get better and is currently the point guard of the future. To make this deal, the Pelicans would have to feel like they are ready to win now.
The Pelicans definitely have the assets to do a deal, but the question is whether they would actually be better off with Beal over the team they currently have. Let’s take a look at both sides of the issue.
