Bleacher Report proposed a trade for the New Orleans Pelicans, but the Pels should absolutely stay away from this one for several reasons.
It’s that time of year again. As the offseason approaches, trade rumors are starting to fly, including a couple involving the New Orleans Pelicans.
Shams Charania set off alarm bells when he mentioned that the Pelicans were one of three teams who inquired about Bradley Beal this season.
Another rumor was started by Bleacher Report, who recently ran an article in which they proposed an offseason trade for every team, including the New Orleans Pelicans.
The Pelicans’ trade looked like this:
While this may initially seem like a mutually beneficial trade, or even skewed in favor of the New Orleans Pelicans, there are several reasons why the Pels should run away from this idea as fast as possible.
Redick will undoubtedly be included in trade rumors this offseason, as he just turned 36-years-old and will be entering the final year of his contract that pays him just over $13 million.
Redick still hits 45.2 percent of his 3-point shots, so there will be plenty of interested teams even though he is at the tail end of his career.
The Pelicans might decide to trade Redick in the offseason to get something in return before he leaves in free agency. But Redick is still a valuable member of the second unit, so they could just let him play out his contract and see if they can re-sign him to a shorter, less expensive deal.
If the New Orleans Pelicans do decide to move J.J. Redick, it should absolutely not be in this deal with Houston and there are several reasons why.
