New Orleans Pelicans: Mock Draft Pick #9

Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. Washington Wizards. 142. Small Forward. Devin Vassell. 9. player

The Washington Wizards are in one of the toughest salary cap situations in the league and their pick will likely have a lot of “ifs” attached to it.

If the Wizards expect John Wall to come back healthy then they have a solid foundation with him and Bradley Beal in the backcourt.

If the Wizards think Wall may not make it back to 100 percent then they could easily trade Beal (maybe to a team like the New Orleans Pelicans) for a treasure trove of assets that they can use to start a rebuild.

The Wizards are likely to lose Davis Bertans in free agency, so ideally would like to find another wing to pair with Rui Hachimura.

Devin Vassell is the prototypical 3-and-D wing who can guard multiple positions and knock down long-range shots.

He is a good fit with just about any team, especially the Wizards, who could use help on both ends of the floor.

If the Wizards end up keeping Beal, then they will be an interesting team next season, as they have some pieces to build around and may be able to add a talent like Vassell into the mix as well.
