New Orleans Pelicans: Home/Away Team Statistics for the Starting Five

Unlike most teams, the Pelicans were nearly as comfortable on the road as they were at home and their individual statistics back this up.

The symbol of this parity is Brandon Ingram, whose numbers are nearly identical across the board no matter where he is playing. One number that does stand out is that B.I. shoots a scorching 42.4% on 3-point shots on the road and just 35% at home.

This is also true of Jrue Holiday, who shoots a slightly better percentage on 3-point shots on the road (36%) than he does at home (35.4%).

The same cannot be said of Lonzo Ball, who was much better shooting at home than on the road. Lonzo is shooting 41.6% on 3-point shots at home and just 35.1% on the road. While Lonzo is shooting better at home, he turns the ball over more there as well, averaging 3.3 turnovers at home to 2.9 on the road.

You have to wonder if Lonzo sometimes tries to do too much in front of the home crowd, taking risks on spectacular passes to thrill the New Orleans faithful.

Zion Williamson is just the opposite, averaging a full turnover more per game at home than he does on the road. The entire starting five averages at least a turnover a game, and if you add Josh Hart and J.J. Redick the Pels have seven players who fall into this category.

Derrick Favors is markedly better at home, averaging more points (10.3 to 8.1) and rebounds (10.2 to 9.5) at the Smoothie King Center.

These eight games may come down to whether the Pels can keep up their hot shooting on the road, and how well they take care of the ball.

The New Orleans Pelicans have the offense and shooting to run other teams off the floor no matter where they play, but if they don’t take care of the ball they’ll be leaving Orlando with a lottery ticket instead of a playoff berth.
