New Orleans Pelicans: Possible Last Minute Replacement Players
Kenneth Faried, Power Forward
It’s unclear why Kenneth Faried left the NBA to play in China.
He is still just 30-years-old and was coming off one of his best statistical seasons in 2018-19, averaging 10.4 points and 6.8 rebounds for the Nets and Rockets.
As expected, Faried dominated in China, averaging 17.3 points and 10 rebounds per game for the Zhejiang Lions.
It’s actually surprising that someone hasn’t grabbed Faried already, at least as a practice body, as the guy can still play. In fact, I’d go so far as to say the New Orleans Pelicans SHOULD sign Faried as a possible bench player for next season if things work out.
Even if Faried couldn’t crack the rotation, he provides another big, energetic body in practice, a guy who will get after it on the defensive end and make the starters work.
He can also somewhat replicate some of the more physical wings the Pelicans will see in Orlando, as the Pels currently have just Brandon Ingram on the wing.
The Pelicans had a hard time stopping bigger wings this year, as they’ve been light at the position with just Slenderman Ingram, while Darius Miller and Kenrich Williams were out with injuries.
Williams may be able to return but are we even sure he’s better than Faried? Even if so, the Pels need bodies on the wing and Faried will bring defense, energy and intensity if nothing else.
He’s the kind of “junkyard dog” player that the Pelicans do not currently have and could definitely use.
If Faried is available and ready to play, someone will probably pick up the phone, and it could be the New Orleans Pelicans if they need another replacement.
