The New Orleans Pelicans announced that rookie sensation Zion Williamson had to leave Orlando for an undisclosed medical emergency in his family.

This NBA season just keeps taking dramatic turns for the New Orleans Pelicans. The team announced that rookie Zion Williamson would be departing the Orlando bubble to attend to a medical emergency in his family.

This NBA re-start has been problematic from the beginning, with several players already testing positive for coronavirus inside the bubble and others opting out altogether.

Zion Williamson has been the talk of the league after photos emerged of his new, slimmed down frame and practice videos leaked showing him dominating his teammates.

Obviously, first and foremost we hope everything is ok with Zion Williamson’s family. There are more important things than basketball, so our thoughts go out to Zion and his family.

This could potentially be a devastating blow to the New Orleans Pelicans

The team will now have to prepare without their star player, with no indication of when he’ll be able to return.

Even when he does return, Zion Williamson will have to quarantine for at least four days, which means he may not be able to participate in the first game of the re-start.

If Zion has to miss any amount of time, the New Orleans Pelicans’ chances of making the playoffs will be significantly worse, as they have little margin for error if they want to overtake the Trail Blazers and beat out Memphis for the final seed in the Western Conference.

It seems like there is bad news coming out of Orlando nearly every day and it finally hit home with the New Orleans Pelicans.

This is just the latest turn in what has become the craziest NBA season in history and there is still two more weeks before things kick off.

All our best to Zion Williamson and his family and wishes for a speedy recovery.
