Takeaways from the New Orleans Pelicans’ win over the Denver Nuggets

Jrue Holiday is a defender

This was only a scrimmage but Jrue Holiday reminded people of why he should be on the All-Defensive team every year.

Holiday was the primary defender on Jokic for most of the first half and was completely locking him up.

Jrue was getting into him low, not allowing Jokic to get the ball up high and didn’t get pushed around in the post by the larger Jokic.

The New Orleans Pelicans can go small against most teams, mostly because of the rebounding of Josh Hart and the defense of Jrue Holiday.

It was a pleasure to watch Holiday work against Jokic, and it will be interesting to see if Alvin Gentry can find ways to deploy him defensively to get advantages at the other end.

Holiday was put in situations tonight that he is unlikely to face in real games, but his ability to guard everyone on the other team could prove to be a big advantage for the Pelicans once things do matter.
