New Orleans Pelicans: Grade for the coaching.

The Coach

D. . Coach. New Orleans Pelicans. ALVIN GENTRY

It’s hard to grade a coach on a meaningless bench game, but I will.

Gentry should be given some credit for getting the young guys to play hard with nothing on the line, and it doesn’t appear that he’s completely lost the team.

I’m going to grade him on one play alone, which might have been the tolling of the bell for Gentry in New Orleans.

With the Pelicans trying to mount a furious late comeback, Gentry inexplicably called a timeout when Lonzo had a runout and clear path to a dunk.

The Pelicans were probably going to lose anyway, but can you at least stay out of their way?

This was symbolic of Gentry’s coaching of late: out of sync, not timely and ultimately not the right call.

The rumors are already swirling that Gentry is going to get fired and that play will not help.

It was a fun game if you like young players, and it was nice to see the Pels finally play hard, but they keep making the same errors, having the same problems and that is probably going to fall on Gentry.
