New Orleans Pelicans: The Pros and Cons of Jason Kidd as Head Coach
The New Orleans Pelicans are attached to Jason Kidd via rumor. Would he be a good choice?
The New Orleans Pelicans need a coach and Jason Kidd was one of the first names to pop up.
This wasn’t surprising. The NBA rumor mill generally just attaches itself to the first big name and Kidd is one of the most recognizable names in the coaching ranks.
His first stints as a coach were hardly inspiring. His most successful year was his first and only with Brooklyn, where he won 44 games with a loaded team and then was promptly fired for trying to stage a front office coup. Oops.
Kid was hired in Milwaukee, where he took a 15-win team to a respectable 41 wins. He topped out at 42 wins with the Bucks and was then fired halfway through the 2017-18 season when his team didn’t live up to expectations.
Kidd’s overall coaching record is 183-190, but that doesn’t tell the whole tale. While some applaud his work in Milwaukee, where he raised overall standards and developed some good players, others point to the fact that he wasn’t able to get it done with Giannis Antetokounmpo on his roster.
Kidd also has a history of drunk driving, spousal abuse and not getting along with management and coaches. He has somewhat rehabilitated himself as an assistant coach in Los Angeles, where he was hand picked by LeBron James to be Frank Vogel’s right hand man.
There are some things to like about Kidd as a coach and he would certainly bring some positives, but there are a ton of red flags as well.
I’m not going to get into the X’s and O’s because there is a lot more to talk about with Kidd than just how he handles the playbook.
Here are some pros and cons of hiring Jason Kidd as the next head coach of the New Orleans Pelicans.
